David is a well-known figure in the VAT world. He trained in VAT with HM Customs & Excise finishing his time in the Department as a Senior Officer Large Trader Control. In 1989 he became a gamekeeper turned poacher when he moved to KPMG as a VAT Manager in the Thames Valley region. Since 1993 David has been running his own specialist VAT advice business which merged with DKS in 2011. David works with a wide range of clients from the small to the large, from the not for profit to the commercial and from the partly exempt to fully taxable. One of David's strengths is that he approaches the VAT issues from "what does the business want to do and then let us make the VAT work". He is experienced in all areas of VAT and has recently been seen at Tribunal supporting clients. David has also worked with a number of firms of accountants as their VAT consultant providing robust a innovative VAT advice to their clients.
Katie specialises in providing VAT advice to small and medium sized businesses. She has considerable expertise in VAT consulting, planning and compliance gained from both in-house and consultancy roles. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999 with Arthur Andersen and went on to work for a US multi-national, KPMG and more recently Menzies LLP where she had overall responsibility for the VAT practice. In addition to her technical skills and experience, Katie is very commercially aware and will consider things from all angles, drawing on her tax and accounting skills as required. She has worked with technology and telecoms clients, charities, property businesses, sole traders, international organisations to name but a few.
Sarah trained in tax with Ernst & Young, qualifying as a chartered tax advisor in 2000 before joining a boutique VAT consultancy and then working independently. She merged her practice with DKS in 2011. Sarah has extensive experience working with large and small businesses to ensure that they are not only VAT compliant but also tax efficient. Unusually in the VAT world, Sarah is a specialist in the Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS) and has many clients in the travel industry. She has done a significant amount of work in the property sector as well as supporting a number of firms of accountants with their clients VAT affairs.
